Introducing Cadw calendar and new Chief Inspector
The spectacular 13th century Dolwyddelan castle in the vale of Conwy is the cover star of the new 2008 calendar from Cadw, the Welsh Assembly's historic environment service, launched by Cadw's new Chief Inspector Gwilym Hughes.
Featuring some of best-known historic sites in its care in Wales, the calendar, which is priced at £9.95 and available to buy from most Cadw sites, includes World Heritage Site Blaenavon Ironworks; Carreg Cennen and Dinefwr castles near Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire; St Davids Bishop's Palace, Pembrokeshire; Denbigh Castle, Denbighshire; Parc Le Breos Burial Chamber on the Gower; Raglan Castle, Tintern Abbey, Skenfrith Castle in Monmouthshire, Caerleon Roman Fortress near Newport and Beaumaris and Caernarfon castles in north-west Wales.
Gwilym Hughes said:
'I'm delighted to be working at Cadw and look forward to helping protect and sustain Wales's wonderful built heritage. Cadw's wealth of historic monuments have been beautifully captured, once again, for the 2008 calendar and while next year may seem a way away it's never too soon to start thinking ahead and this calendar is an ideal tool for anyone who likes to be organised and appreciates Wales's diverse heritage.'
Diane Williams, Cadw's publications editor, said:
'We commissioned some stunning new photography this year and are delighted with the finished calendar. As well as featuring some of Wales's most visited sites such as Caernarfon Castle and Tintern Abbey, we've also photographed some of our lesser known sites such as Skenfrith Castle and Parc Le Breos Burial Chamber which are sometimes forgotten but are undoubtedly worth a visit too.'
