The Welsh Academy Encyclopaedia of Wales, funded by the Arts Council of Wales through a significant lottery grant, will be officially launched on 31 January 2008 and not 14 November 2007 as previously announced. Unforeseen problems in the crucial last stages of production have resulted in a short delay before final publication.
Peter Finch, Chief Executive of Academi, said:
'While the delay is unfortunate and disappointing for all involved in the project we hope people will understand that the publication of such an important book as this should not be undertaken lightly. After a decade's worth of in-depth research, writing and editing, it is imperative that sufficient time is taken to ensure that the two volumes are as accurate as possible and achieve the highest editorial standards; this is after all a permanent record for generations to come.
We would like to sincerely apologize to all those who have ordered copies in advance, or who were planning to give The Welsh Academy Encyclopaedia of Wales as a Christmas gift. This is a publication well worth waiting for and at least everyone who orders a copy has something to look forward to during the long dark days of January.'
The University of Wales Press, publisher of The Welsh Academy Encyclopaedia of Wales, has also announced the extension, until 31 December 2007, of the pre-publication special offer of £50 with free post and packaging (within the UK). The Press has confirmed that the pre-publication offer, due to end in September, had been a great success with advance orders now exceeding 4,500 copies. Customers may place their order via UWP's website www.encyclopaediaofwales.com or through their local bookseller.
