What's your favourite time of the day?
I very much enjoy the first half hour in the morning as I plan my day.

What's your favourite season?
The winter's my season — dark and mysterious, cold and hot — any excuse for a real fire burning peat.

What's your favourite smell?
I've always loved the smell of petrol — ever since I was a child and pulled gallons of the stuff at the village petrol pump.

What's your favourite food?
A plateful of Welsh Lamb Chops and a good bottle of Chateau Musar from the Lebanon and I'm happy.

Do you have any pets?
I have a mad dog and am quite likely to soon inherit a budgie.

What do you tend to do with you're not working?
I like listening to organ music, golfing and singing.

What's your favourite colour?
Red is my favourite colour, roses my flowers.

What would you find on your bedside table?
I'm going to India shortly, so on my bedside table I have a travel guide, the biography of David Trimble, the biography of Pennan Davies and every travel section of weekend papers for the last six months.

How would you describe yourself?
I'm generous to a fault, but dislike people being late.

What's your favourite motto?
'Right on 'til the end of the road.'
